About the Item

You have the rare opportunity to acquire an absolutely stunning modern chandelier from the house of Venini, Italy. The magnificent model "Pastorale" with the catalog number 966 - with a stunning total height of 2 meters! (78,74) To get a 3-dimensional impression of the object, please have a look at the video we have provided in addition to the photos! (on request we can also provide you with a video explaining the assembly of the glass elements) We have asked the Venini Expertise Team - this chandelier was produced under the Artistic Direction of Ludovico Diaz de Santillana in very small quantities only in the years 1970-1972 and only on request. We were able to acquire the object first hand from a fanatical Angelo Mangiarotti collector, it can be assumed that here is a collaboration of de Santillana and Mangiarotti. There is a replacement glass element, which we found in the original Venini - box, as well as the original invoice etc. All glass elements are mouth-blown unique pieces, of course made of exquisite Murano glass - the production is pure artistic Murano craftsmanship! Every single glass pieces are inserted in hooks and additionally held by clamps, altogether the composition describes an upward spiral. The glass is perfectly clear and even has a small cleaning hole in each piece - depending on the used light sources and the environment, various light moods can be created. The central column is made of chromed steel and includes the complete electrical wiring, which has been checked by our electrician. This chandelier is simply a perfect splendor! Stylish and timeless... We have made the photos with clear, standard light bulbs, if you want, the entire chandelier can also be controlled in its light intensity via a separately available dimmer. Some of our photos show the chandelier in a homely situation, others in front of a cooler background. .......regardless of how and where you hang this beauty, it will be THE noble highlight of your home! Dear interior designers, architects and of course all other interested parties - due to the image compression of 1stdibs the photos of the articles shown here are unfortunately mostly rather spongy and possibly not suitable for customer presentations. To judge colors and nuances correctly, please use a mac retina display to view our photos! Ludovico Diaz de Santillana (1931–1989) - After his degree in architecture obtained in Venice, de Santillana immediately dedicated himself to academic teaching. He married Anna Venini, Paolo’s daughter, and then took over the management of “Venini C.” after the owner’s death. He greatly contributed to spreading the use of glass in architecture by opening up Venini’s kilns and the secrets of Murano to young American glassmaking artists, with a delicate balance between artistic craftsmanship, design, and industry. His daughter, Laura Diaz de Santillana attended the School of Visual Arts in New York. After working as a graphic designer at the design firm of Vignelli Associates in 1976, she returned to Italy and began an active collaboration with Vetreria Venini C., founded by her grandfather, Paolo Venini. She participated in numerous exhibitions in Europe, the United States, and Japan, winning widespread consensus. Several of her works have been acquired by public and private collections such as the Corning Museum of Glass, the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe in Hamburg, and the Museo Vetrario di Murano.

Erik Gunnar Asplund, “GA9” Wall Lights for ASEA, Sweden 1940s
By Lisa Johansson-Pape, Hans Bergström, ASEA, Erik Gunnar Asplund
Located in Munster, NRW
With its organically shaped blown glass shade, especially rare in this opaline frosted glass version, the GA9 resembles a floating droplet. Designed by Swedish architect Erik Gunnar Asplund, widely regarded as the godfather of Swedish modernism, this lamp embodies his signature geometric clarity and structural ingenuity. Like his Stockholm City Library, it balances simplicity with innovation. A bent arm holds the glass, while another secures the light source at the luminaire’s center. The black lacquered metal curves organically, contrasting with polygonal backplates—an interplay of geometry and fluidity that defines Asplund’s vision. The large, mushroom-like shades diffuse light in a soft, mesmerizing glow, enhancing the atmosphere beyond mere functionality. Asplund’s influence extended to Scandinavian design icons such as Alvar Aalto, Erik Bryggman...

Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby have designed Planophore 2014 for Vitra as a dual-purpose - room divider and bookshelf. Its open sides create a horizontal emphasis underscored by the solid shelves with rounded bottom edges, which are reminiscent of aircraft wings and appear to float on the vertical panels. This also explains the name of the shelf: the original Planophore made its debut in 1871 as the first stable model aeroplane...
