About the Item
- A wonderful three part copper Holophane ceiling pendant with chain and ceiling rose, American circa 1930.
- The pendant consists of two sections of prismatic glass held together by four original Holophane clips; the smaller separate Holophane dish sitting to the underneath of the pendant. A bronze embossed "red spot" hanger with verdigris fits to the ceiling.
- The pendant has an extra layer of history to it as it contains evidence of its provenance stamped 'Wakefield Red Spot Vermilion, O'. The F. W. Wakefield Brass Company were lighting specialists manufactured in Vermilion, Ohio. The company was founded by Frederick W. Wakefield in 1910 and became a prominent manufacturer of lighting fixtures. The "Red Spot" name was a brand of product associated with their lighting products, as evidenced by a 1936 trade catalog titled "Wakefield red spot lighting specialties".

Holophane Originally founded in 1893 the hallmark of Holophane luminaires was the borosilicate glass reflector, which acted as a prism providing a combination of uplight and downlight, to illuminate any environment evenly without creating dark spots or glare. As a result Holophane lights were frequently used in churches, as street-lights and to illuminate older factories and industrial spaces.
