About the Item
This vintage baroque-style handcrafted gold-infused opaline Murano chandelier has five arms with leaf-trimmed bobeches. The milky opaline glass veers towards a light blue color with subtle changes in the light. Flowers and leaves embellish this glass chandelier, blooming from the small bulbous center column. The piece has further detailing of scroll stems, twirling leaf ends, a lattice texture on the surface of the glass bowl, and rigaree trim, exhibiting a masterful flair in glass craftsmanship.
The glass houses on the island of Murano are famous for highly ornamented glass chandeliers created by the inflation of molten glass, followed by cutting, pincering, and other rapidly executed decorations and details. The body and arms of this piece are made of opaline glass. Opaline glass is typically made bluish-white by the addition of Calcium phosphate (bone ash) and opalescent by the addition of fluorides. This chandelier references the ‘Ca'Rezzonico’ style of chandeliers created by Giuseppe Briati, an 18th-century Murano glass master. The ‘Ca'Rezzonico’ style is named for the Venetian palace, today a public museum dedicated to 18th-century Venice, where Briati’s initial masterpiece resides.
This chandelier demonstrates a delicate Baroque-style design still loved by many, resulting in a glistening floral centerpiece. The opaline is reminiscent of the moon’s glow or a dewy spring morning. An example of refinement and ephemeral beauty, this chandelier is truly captivating and elevates any interior with a touch of the natural world.

This fixture requires a canopy and chain, which is not included. Handcrafted, no parts are identical. Wear consistent with age and use. A few flea-bite chips, but no cracks or repairs. See magnified images for reference. When assembling, insert parts in the corresponding numbered slots to ensure symmetry. Ships disassembled.
