This stunning mid-century Baroque-style chandelier is meticulously handcrafted from exquisite pink and opaline Murano glass. This piece features five elegantly scroll-shaped arms, each adorned with petal-trimmed trilobed cups. The milky opaline glass subtly shifts toward light blue, creating a captivating effect that changes with the ambient light.
Two tiers of delicate pink lattimo tulips bloom gracefully from the lattice-textured, bulbous center column, adding a vibrant touch to the overall design. The chandelier's intricate detailing includes scroll stems, a central hanging finial, and rigaree trim, showcasing the exceptional craftsmanship that defines this remarkable piece.
This chandelier is a refined interpretation of the iconic ‘Ca'Rezzonico’ style, created by the renowned glassmaker Giuseppe Briati in the 18th century. Named after the Venetian palace that houses Briati’s masterpiece, the ‘Ca'Rezzonico’ style is celebrated for its ornate beauty. The glass houses of Murano are famous for their highly ornamented chandeliers, achieved through the inflation of molten glass followed by intricate cutting and detailing.
The body and arms of this chandelier are crafted from opaline Venetian glass, which achieves its bluish-white hue through the addition of calcium phosphate (bone ash) and becomes opalescent with fluorides. The tulip adornments are made using a combination of pigment and ‘Lattimo’ glass, known for its opaque, porcelain-like appearance. This effect is created by incorporating specific minerals, such as tin oxide, into the glass mixture, resulting in a smooth, creamy finish that beautifully complements the opalescent hues.
The soft pastel combination of opaline glass, lattimo, and pink glass evokes the dewy colors of springtime.
