About the Item
This exquisitely handcrafted gold-infused opaline Murano chandelier features six undulating arms extending from the central bowl. The milky opaline glass leans towards a light blue hue with subtle variations in lighting. Glass leaves adorn the chandelier, blossoming over and around the base from the small bulbous center column. The piece includes intricate scroll stems and rigaree trim, showcasing a skilled mastery of glass craftsmanship.
The glassworks on Murano Island are well known for their ornate glass chandeliers, crafted through inflating molten glass, followed by cutting, pinching, and other swiftly executed decorative touches. The body and arms of this chandelier are composed of opaline Murano glass enriched with 24-carat gold leaf. Opaline glass typically achieves a bluish-white tone through the addition of Calcium phosphate (bone ash) and an opalescent quality through the incorporation of fluorides. The gold accents are predominantly featured on the trims and leaves, complementing the shifting opalescent shades. This mid-century chandelier is a simplified rendition of the ‘Ca'Rezzonico’ style of chandeliers pioneered by Giuseppe Briati in the 18th century. The style is named after the Venetian palace, now a public museum dedicated to 18th-century Venice, housing Briati’s original masterpiece.

- Condition:Rewired: Rewired to US electrical standards, it takes six base-size bulbs, incandescent or LED. This fixture requires a canopy and chain which is not included. Three feet of wire at the top can be adjusted to the preferred height. Wear consistent with age and use. Glassblown with natural imperfections. No chips or cracks in the glass. Arms and extensions are numbered to correspond to numbered slots on the base. Disassembled, requires assembly. Will require special handling and shipping by white glove service.
