Black Forest Hand-Carved Wooden Figural Light Fixture, Austria, 1950s or Earlier
A beautifully crafted and highly decorative Black Forest–style light fixture, hand carved entirely from wood and originating from Austria, dating to the 1950s or earlier. This sculptural lighting piece features finely detailed, expressive figural forms with characteristically grumpy visages, reflecting traditional Austrian folk artistry.
The figures are meticulously carved and hand colored, displaying exceptional depth and craftsmanship. Both whimsical and architectural, this rare lighting work creates a warm and inviting atmosphere and is well suited for a private home, cabin, lodge, man cave, restaurant, or alpine- or outdoor-themed retail space.
This fixture is European wired and, due to its age, should be professionally rewired for use in the United States and other regions. It requires four E27 / 110-volt Edison bulbs, with a maximum of 60 watts per bulb. Lightbulbs shown in the photographs are for display purposes only and are not included.
Discovered at an estate sale in the historic city of Tulln, Austria, this striking and uncommon lighting fixture is a true eye-catcher and a memorable conversation piece.
Condition:
Good vintage condition with wear consistent with age. Original hand-painted surfaces and carving details are well preserved. Rewiring recommended.
