Elegant pair of ceiling chandeliers, model Pagoda, attributed to Esperia (Poggibonsi, Tuscany), crafted between 1970 and 1975 under the stylistic influence of Angelo Brotto. Perfect for sophisticated interiors where design and light blend in harmony.
The workmanship reflects the tradition of the Tuscan district: smoked glass and brass assembled by skilled hands with precise soldering and meticulous finishes. Each piece bears authentic signs of age, such as light oxidation and patina on the brass or minor irregularities in the glass, a testament to its vintage character and lived history. Founded in 1952 in Poggibonsi by Romano Conforti, Eugenio Cortigiano, and Mario Moni, Esperia is an Italian company specialized in high-end decorative lighting. During the 1960s and 1970s, it collaborated with Angelo Brotto, one of the most influential designers of the period, who strongly contributed to shaping the brand’s distinctive style. Esperia manages all production stages in-house, from design to material selection (glass, crystal, brass, iron, aluminum), through to crafting and hand finishing. The structure of these chandeliers combines molded smoked glass, cut in geometric yet refined shapes, with metal – most likely brass – in a natural finish that enhances its warm reflections and evolving patina. The slightly tinted glass diffuses light softly, reducing glare while creating a warm and enveloping atmosphere. Ideal above a dining table, in an elegant kitchen, a dramatic entryway, a library, or a bedroom where ambiance is desired. The “Pagoda” design, characterized by squared lines and curved edges, evokes an Oriental influence reinterpreted in a modern key – a hallmark of Esperia’s production in the 1970s. A fusion of geometric minimalism and warm decorativism, highly appreciated in mid-century interiors as well as in contemporary spaces that balance antique and modern elements. A rare pair, emblematic of Esperia’s style and Angelo Brotto’s influence: smoked glass that adds depth and mystery, brass that gains warmth and personality with age, and proportions carefully balanced to provide visual presence without overwhelming the space. More than lighting fixtures, they become aesthetic signatures within an interior. The pair is in excellent condition. Only the ceiling canopies covering the electric wires show slight oxidation, typical of brass; additionally, the wires exit in different positions (see photos). The electrical system is in working order but retains its original European wiring. Voltage compatibility in other countries should always be verified by a qualified electrician prior to use.
