Wilhelm Zannoth for Design M, ‘Zanil’ ceiling lamp, cork, leather, Germany, 1970
This striking design was conceived by Wilhelm Zannoth for Ingo Maurer’s lighting company, Design M. The structure is organized around a hexagonal pyramidal form, executed in cork, a textured material with a beige hue. The body of the lamp is suspended by leather cables that converge at the center and connect to a cork canopy at the ceiling, both elements sharing the same hexagonal geometry. The combination of material experimentation and formal precision exemplifies Zannoth’s and Maurer’s commitment to innovative design. As such, this ceiling lamp functions not merely as a source of illumination but as a sculptural statement within the interior environment.
