About the Item
Rare floor lamp designed by Aldo vd Nieuwelaar and manufactured by Domani, The Netherlands 1967. This modern floor lamp is part of the 'Globe’ series and is a great example of the work of Dutch designer Aldo van den Nieuwelaar. His style is known for being minimal and well-balanced. The lamp was made by the Dutch company Domani for only a short time and in limited quantities because many parts had to be handmade. It has a perfect milk-glass globe and a unique and rare yellow iron frame made from a single piece. The frame starts as a circle that goes over in a vertical stem, then makes a genius bend to where the globe is held and ends in a smaller vertival stem where the light socket is placed on. The lamp gives off great soft light that creates a perfect atmosphere. In fantastic original condition.
Born in 1944, Aldo van den Nieuwelaar is a Dutch designer and architect. He founded his own studio in 1969 and spent his career designing furniture, light fixtures, light sculptures, and architecture. His work is known for its simplicity and clarity of form Van den Nieuwelaar’s iconic work is in his sculptural fluorescent lighting which often featured curved steel tubes in white and chrome and geometric fluorescent tubes. One example is the TC6, a square box with a circular fluorescent tube. In 1973 van den Nieuwelaar collaborated with Pastoe to create a series of narrow cabinets with shutter doors. His award-winning designs are exhibited in museums throughout the Netherlands as well as the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.
This lamp is checked in our own atelier, cleaned and is suitable for use in the USA. For US usage we could change the plug, or you can get a converter if needed for a floor or table lamp with transformer in it.
