About the Item

A rare design with a distinct silhouette, this “Cactus” floor lamp by Carlo Nason shows how bold shapes and refined technique can come together in lighting. Designed in collaboration with Mazzega during the 1970s, it’s an expressive object with sculptural presence and functional clarity. Design The lamp consists of a vertical metal structure, cross-connected with rods at four levels. These rods serve both as reinforcement and as holders for the light sources, which are spaced evenly to ensure a balanced glow. Surrounding the core are twenty-five glass leaves, each suspended from the frame on small hooks. These leaves, arranged in varied combinations of small, medium, and large, can be adjusted closer or further from the structure using discreet tension screws. Their shape and placement lend the lamp its botanical quality—like a cactus in full form. The glass leaves are crafted using the “ghiaccio” technique. By plunging the hot glass into cold water, a fractured effect is created, which is later sealed beneath a smooth outer layer. This yellow version produces a soft amber hue when lit, while in daylight, the glass glows with a warm golden tone, enhancing its organic rhythm and visual texture. A vivid and architectural floor lamp, distinct in form and rich in detail. Carlo Nason’s modernist vision comes through in the combination of material, technique, and modulation of light. Condition In very good condition, with light signs of oxidation on the frame. The glass leaves are complete. Three of them show some signs of usage. Provenance This lamp features in the Mazzega Catalogue #7.

Vintage Arredoluce Yellow Lamp, by Angelo Lelli, Italy, circa 1952
By Arredoluce
Located in Roma, IT
This Arredoluce yellow lamp is an original lamp designed by Angelo Lelli and manufactured by Arredoluce very likely in 1952. Green Alpi marble base (a marble of great aesthetic value, very rare and refined and elegant), structure in polished and enameled brass. The arm can be swiveled and fixed by a system inside the central joint, and controlled by the counterweight handle at the end. Enameled aluminum reflector. Published in: Arredoluce Catalogue Raisonné, 1943-1987. Dimensions: cm 35 (diameter) x 183. Reflector diameter cm 35. Good conditions. Arredoluce was a lighting manufacturer founded by Angelo Lelli in postwar Italy, a hotbed of inventive industrial design. The company manufactured lighting by Ettore Sottsass, though the company’s best-known designs, variations on a floor lamp with a slender column, pivoting arms that allowed for maximum flexibility of use, and enameled metal conical shades, is attributed to Lelli. Angelo Lelli (1911-1979) - also spelled "Lelii" as you read in some of his signatures - was an Italian designer, considered today as a key personality of the modernist era. Of lighting design, like his more successful contemporaries such as Gino Sarfatti of Arteluce and Giuseppe Ostuni of Oluce. Little information about Lelli's biography has survived, but according to some sources he lived from 1911-1979. He was an active and decisive figure in the Italian postwar design boom, giving a significant contribution to the Italian design renaissance. Lelli collaborated with many other important designers, including Gio Ponti, Nanda Vigo, Mario Tedeschi...
