About the Item

Oscar Torlasco’s work for Lumi represents a distinctive approach to lighting design, blending precision engineering with sculptural aesthetics. This floor lamp, designed in the 1960s, is a prime example of his innovative vision. Design A structured composition defines this piece. Three adjustable spherical shades, crafted in enameled metal and stainless steel, sit atop slender rods anchored to a circular base. The interplay between the polished metal and the soft matte finish of the enameled surfaces creates a striking contrast. The careful placement of perforations in the metal ensures a subtle diffusion of light, contributing to both functionality and atmosphere. The construction, executed with meticulous attention to detail, showcases Lumi’s dedication to quality materials and craftsmanship. The design captures the essence of mid-century modernism, balancing industrial precision with an elegant, almost futuristic aesthetic. Torlasco’s designs remain sought after for their ingenuity and timeless appeal. This lamp is a strong representation of his ability to merge form and function, demonstrating a clear understanding of both technical and visual composition. Condition The lamp shows signs of age with patina on the metal surfaces. Wear on the enameled finish and oxidation on the base add character without compromising the structural integrity.

Tamburo Floorlamp Medium-Sized by Tobia Scarpa for Flos, Italy 1970s
By Flos, Tobia Scarpa
Located in Hellouw, NL
Tobia Scarpa is a near-legendary figure in the world of design. Renowned for a wide range of creations—many developed in collaboration with his wife, Afra—his work occupies a prominent place in the history of Italian design. It comes as no surprise that Italian lighting manufacturer Flos has frequently enlisted Scarpa’s visionary talent throughout his career. Design One striking example of his avant-garde style is the Tamburo lamp. True to its name—tamburo meaning "drum" in Italian—the lamp features a bold, round, abstract form set at a 60-degree angle on a distinctive stem. Green rings are attached to both sides of the green frame using Allen bolts, creating a design that feels both futuristic and evocative of the Memphis movement—bold, unconventional, and defiant of norms. A matte plastic diffuser is fixed at the front by the dark green ring...

Large Tamburo Floorlamp by Tobia Scarpa for Flos, Italy 1970s
By Tobia Scarpa, Flos
Located in Hellouw, NL
Tobia Scarpa is a near-mythical figure in the world of design. Celebrated for a wide-ranging body of work—much of it created alongside his wife, Afra—Scarpa’s contributions occupy a central place in the history of Italian modernism. It’s no surprise that Flos, a pioneering force in Italian lighting, has collaborated with Scarpa multiple times throughout his illustrious career. Design One of the most commanding examples of his bold, forward-thinking aesthetic is the Tamburo lamp, shown here in its rarest and largest version—an impressive 250 cm in height. As its name suggests (tamburo meaning “drum” in Italian), the design centers around a striking circular form, mounted at a precise 60-degree angle atop a sharply geometric stem.On both sides of the wide green housing, dark green rings...

Angelo Ostuni and Renato Forti 399 Floor Lamp in Metal by Oluce 1960s
By Oluce, Angelo Ostuni, Renato Forti
Located in Cascina, Pisa
Floor lamp model 399 (from cornalux series) with structure in nickel-plated metal, lacquered metal and cast iron. The lamp bulb is adjustable in height achieved by a bracket that allows the lamp to be slid up and down the lamp stem. This lamp was designed by the Italian duo formed by Angelo Ostuni & Renato Forti and manufactured by O-Luce in 1958. Measurements: H 141 x Ø 24 diameter (base 20cm). Founded in 1945 by Giuseppe Ostuni, Oluce is the oldest Italian design company still operating in the lighting world, a unique production excellence which translates passionate aesthetic and technological research into the potential of light into actual form. Over the years, Oluce has succeeded in building a collection structured like a tale, rich and multifaceted, inhabited by products that transcend fashion to become Italian design icons. Its relationship with the design world begins In 1951, Oluce successfully took part in the IX Triennale, presenting – in the lighting section curated by Achille, Livio and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni – a Luminator designed by Franco Buzzi. As was typical at that time, the company instantly gained visibility on the international panorama thanks to Domus magazine. Major success was then reasserted by Tito Agnoli with nominations at the second edition of the Compasso d’Oro awards, in 1955, for his two lamps (the 363 floor lamp and a special bookshelf model). In 1956 these were followed in rapid succession by two more nominations: one for a remarkable table lamp in polyvinyl slats and another for a pendant lamp (mod. 4461) with double perspex shade. Then, there was the noteworthy 255/387 lamp (known as ”Agnoli”), a spot light supported...
