About the Item

This floor lamp is an example of iconic vintage design, designed by French designers Robert Guillerme and Jacques Chambron in the 1960s. Also known as the "Tricoteuse", it is made of solid oak wood, a material that gives strength and warmth to its appearance. The base of the floor lamp is wide and circular, designed as a storage, with vertical wooden elements arranged in a fan shape to create an impression of lightness despite the mass. The central part rises in a double wooden structure that forms an "X" shaped silhouette (like two knitting needles crossing), offering a balanced geometric aesthetic and a utilitarian design. The recently made lampshade is cylindrical, with a stretched ecru bouclé fabric that diffuses the light in a soft and even way. This fabric is slightly pleated at the top, creating an effect of flexibility and texture that contrasts with the rigidity of the wood. The name "Tricoteuse" refers to a dual purpose: the circular tray at the base can be used as a storage space or to place objects, reinforcing the idea of a functional as well as aesthetic piece of furniture. The lid has a handle and leather hinges. The light is provided by bulbs arranged on a ceramic cup (ceramic by Boleslaw DANIKOWSKI) fixed to a horizontal wooden crosspiece that also holds the entire top of the structure. The design is at the crossroads of the modern style of the 60s and a craft tradition, with simple but worked lines, and a judicious use of natural materials. The proportions of the floor lamp give an impression of robustness and discreet elegance, typical of the creations of Guillerme and Chambron. Guillerme and Chambron are known for their functional, warm and innovative furniture designs, often in oak wood, characteristic of their time. This Tricoteuse floor lamp fits perfectly into this philosophy, combining utility and timeless aesthetics.
