Huge Orientalist Theme Statue / Lamp w/Arab Woman Under a Brass Shade w/ Jewels

About the Item

This lamp is nothing short of remarkable. I have only seen a few of this size and genre in all my 46 years of having an antique shop. The few that survived that are lamps would certainly be lacking the shade. A young attractive Arab woman beside a tabouret, and with that incredible shade over her head. The woman is patinated with a green color to her dress, with her skin richly colored brown. The tabouret has a dark patina and an interesting diamond pattern. The shade is very special. Open brass work with round jewels and lit up with the original 8 sockets to assure the onlooker that every jewel gets it's due. The body of the lamp also lights up and has the same jewels. This is not bronze, and this genre was almost assuredly done by Louis Hottot. He never worked in bronze. The metal he used is known as spelter. Spelter was used so often at the turn of the 19th-20th century that even the best sculptors used it. It is still just as heavy as bronze. It is amazing that her fan is still there and in place. A chance to own a rare and most impressive sculptural lamp. Below we listed just the diameter of the shade at 20", but the width is actually a few inches greater.

Replacements made: The beadwork along the border of the shade is a replacement for the original, which was absent when we bought the piece. Repaired: A very small hole was at the top of her head. Our restorer made it go away. It s so minor, but we pride ourselves on accuracy. This huge statue / lamp presents very well indeed. Nobody can dispute the condition. The buyer will be more than satisfied. Wear consistent with age and use. Wear mainly to her dress.
