About the Item

"King" floor lamp was designed by the Dutch physicist and designer Edy ten Berge in 1984. The design was awarded the prestigious Benelux Industrial Design Prize in the same year. The lamp features a thick, solid acrylic rod that curves from a rectangular black metal base. Utilizing the principle of total internal reflection (similar to fiber optics) the light source hidden in the base travels through the clear rod and emits a focused beam at the tip. This creates a floating light effect that is both functional and visually captivating. The clear body of the lamp gives it a minimalist presence that blends seamlessly into space, while the illuminated tip serves as a striking accent. Condition Report: The lamp is in good vintage condition. As is typical for this model and material, there are surface scratches and crazing visible on the acrylic rod, which are documented in the photos (see close-ups). The lighting mechanism is fully functional.
