The pearl chandelier is clearly inspired by organic forms, lily pads, oyster shells, plant tendrils, but at the same time is a rationally conceived, architectural form that is driven by the material of its construction: wood. Woodworkers must work within the discipline imposed by the strengths and limitations of their medium. Like the triangulated trusses of a timber form barn, the carved arms and supports are shaped to carry their weight, and function as members of a well-balanced wooden structure.
