About the Item
Large Pair French Louis XV Style Ormolu Gold Green Glass Candelabra
French, 20th Century
Height 160cm, width 77cm, depth 77cm
This exceptional pair of candelabra, designed in the Louis XV style, combines gilt ormolu with deep green glass, evoking the opulence and exuberance of 18th-century Rococo decoration.
Crafted in France during the 20th century, each candelabrum stands an impressive 160 cm tall. The design captures the fluidity and movement characteristic of Rococo ornamentation, with asymmetrical compositions and naturalistic detailing throughout. Central baluster-shaped green glass vases are encased in meticulously modelled ormolu mounts featuring scrolling acanthus leaves, masks, and rocaille motifs. From each neck, twelve gilt-bronze arms extend gracefully, terminating in leafy sconces with flower-form drip pans.
The elaborate ormolu bases rest on four scrolling feet adorned with shells and foliate ornament, lending the candelabra both architectural presence and sculptural richness. The contrast of deep green glass against the warm gilding heightens the sense of drama and refinement.
This magnificent pair commands attention and would enhance both classical and contemporary interiors, exemplifying the pinnacle of French decorative artistry.
