About the Item

A rare and iconic “Iride” floor lamp designed by Ico Parisi for Lamperti Robbiate in the 1970s. One of Parisi’s most striking lighting creations, the Iride is defined by its sculptural vertical column wrapped in a sequence of multicolored circular discs. These discs arranged in a chromatic gradient from purple at the top through green, yellow etc and red at the base filter and refract the light into a radiant spectrum, giving the piece a mesmerizing and kinetic presence. The central illuminated core casts a soft, continuous glow that interacts with each disc, creating shifting halos of color and a rich atmospheric effect on the surrounding walls. The composition is anchored by a bold red lacquered cylindrical base, reinforcing the lamp’s graphic strength and architectural balance. A masterpiece of Italian radical design, the Iride embodies Parisi’s unique ability to merge functional lighting with sculptural form and emotional impact. Produced by Lamperti Robbiate with exceptional craftsmanship, it stands as one of the most collectible and visually arresting floor lamps of the 1970s. Ico Parisi (1916–1996) was an influential Italian architect and designer whose work bridged rationalist rigor and expressive experimentation. Active in Como, he collaborated with his wife Luisa to create interiors, furniture, and lighting defined by sculptural elegance and refined proportions. Parisi worked with leading manufacturers such as Cassina, MIM, and Lamperti, producing iconic pieces celebrated for their poetic balance of form and function. His multidisciplinary approach and visionary sensibility place him among the most significant voices of Italian mid-century design. Lamperti Robbiate, founded near Milan, emerged as an important Italian lighting manufacturer during the 1960s and 1970s, known for collaborating with forward-thinking designers including Ico Parisi. The company embraced bold forms, innovative materials, and expressive uses of color, helping define the experimental spirit of the era. Lamperti’s production combined high craftsmanship with a willingness to push beyond traditional lighting typologies, resulting in sculptural, often iconic pieces. Their lamps remain sought after for their distinctive aesthetic and strong connection to Italian radical design.
