About the Item

A Pair of rare and poetic French Mid-Century Modern Craftsman floor lamps, handmade from roots of trees and, hewn together into an organic, naturalist sculptural form. These unique, dramatic works express a reverence for nature while using the language of organic modernism. They are in the style of French surrealists Jean-Charles Moreux and Bolette Natanson. Moreux was a leading French designer of the 1930 period. He introduced surrealism into his work via the use of the unexpected, collections of naturalist specimens and by bringing outdoor furniture to the indoors. A Moreux room was like entering a cabinet of curiosities. These lamps bring all of the that into a functional interior design context: the stunning influence of nature and a sense of surprise and the unexpected. Shades are for demonstration purpose only.
