Stunning atmospheric tripod Cocoon floorlamp. Elegant, timeless and it blends with lost of interior styles. It's in a very good condition, both chrome and lampshade. Designer Friedel Wauer, was a pioneering German lampshade manufacturer and designer, widely recognized as the "grandfather of cocoon lamps".
Company: Wauer founded the company Goldkant-Leuchten (initially named Cocoon-Leuchten International) in Germany in 1946. The company operated until 1994.
Innovation: He is credited by peers and the Italian lighting company FLOS with developing a groundbreaking technique in 1952 for applying a specialized synthetic polymer spray onto a metal wireframe to create lampshades. This process was inspired by a silk worm's "self-wrapping" and the material itself was originally developed for "mothballing" naval ships.
Design Legacy: Wauer's innovative approach led to over 400 foundational models in approximately 1,000 variations, ranging from modern to traditional designs.
