About the Item

French Art Deco Flush Mount by Muller Frères Luneville for Francis Hubens, France, circa 1920 Striking French Art Deco flush-mount ceiling light by Muller Frères (Luneville), created circa 1920 for the Parisian decoration house Francis Hubens, located at 68 rue des Archives, Paris 3e. The fixture is designed in the form of an inverted skyscraper, a bold and highly characteristic Art Deco motif inspired by early 20th-century urban architecture. The molded glass shade, rendered in a rich dark amber tone, diffuses a warm, atmospheric light, while the nickel-plated metal stepped frame reinforces the geometric, architectural rhythm of the design. The contrast between the luminous glass and the structured metal mount gives this ceiling light a strong visual presence, making it an excellent example of French Art Deco lighting, equally suited to residential or decorative architectural settings. Materials, Signatures, and Condition Molded glass shade Nickel-plated metal structure Molded signatures: “Muller Frères Luneville” and “Francis Hubens France” Good vintage condition The fixture is professionally rewired and delivered wired for your country (US, UK, EU, China, Australia, etc.). LED bulbs may be used. Dimensions Height: 13 in. (33 cm) Overall diameter: 8.35 in. (21.2 cm) Muller Frères Luneville Founded in Lunéville, France, at the end of the 19th century, Muller Frères were among the leading French glassmakers of the Art Nouveau and Art Deco periods. Initially influenced by the École de Nancy, the firm developed a distinctive style characterized by molded glass, architectural forms, and refined surface treatments. By the 1920s, Muller Frères had fully embraced the Art Deco aesthetic, producing lighting fixtures that reflected modernity, geometry, and industrial progress. Their collaborations with architects, decorators, and Parisian design houses—such as Francis Hubens—allowed their work to reach a sophisticated urban clientele. Francis Hubens (active circa 1910–1930) Francis Hubens was a Paris-based decorator, editor, and distributor of lighting and decorative objects active primarily during the Art Deco period. Operating from his showroom and decoration house at 68 rue des Archives, Paris (3rd arrondissement), Hubens played an important role in promoting modern decorative arts to a sophisticated urban clientele. Rather than producing objects himself, Francis Hubens collaborated with leading French glassmakers and metalworkers, commissioning high-quality lighting fixtures that reflected the latest stylistic developments of the time. His name is frequently associated with Muller Frères Luneville, whose molded glass and architectural designs aligned perfectly with the emerging Art Deco aesthetic. Hubens’ production favored geometric forms, architectural inspiration, and refined materials, bridging craftsmanship and modern design. Pieces bearing the dual signatures of Muller Frères and Francis Hubens are particularly valued today, as they document the close collaboration between independent Parisian decoration houses and regional glass studios during the early 20th century. Today, Francis Hubens–signed lighting is sought after for its authentic Art Deco character, strong design identity, and historical relevance within the Parisian decorative arts scene.
