About the Item

Large ceiling lamp made of chrome-plated steel, composed of large Lucite blocks through which they project light. Maison Jansen was founded in Paris in 1880 by Dutchman Jean-Henry JANSEN. The Paris headquarters was on Rue Royale, in a mansion built by architect Louis Le Tellier with GABRIEL's facade designs, for Duke François Fréderic de La Rochefoucauld. It initially sold antiques but later became an emblem of luxury internationally. In 1889 he participated in the Universal Exhibition in Paris, gaining a world-renowned reputation. Henry Jansen was the first to use the term "decorator." His vision revolutionized apartment interiors. He invented the profession of interior design. A transition forced by the advent of the industry that took the place of the master cabinetmakers of the Faubourg Saint Antoine and the suppliers of Mobilier National. The term global decoration was first used for the JANSEN Company. Henry Jansen created the CAMONDO school, which is still active today. He was able to mix theory and practice in his workshops from which emerged the great decorators we still remember today. In the 1930s, Pierre Delbée, Carlos Ortiz Cabrera, Francis Chaillou, Serge Robin, Henri Samuel, Claude Mandron et Arthur Kouwenhoven worked for the Jansen atelier in Paris.
