Rare hand-crafted architectural lantern, early 1900.
This is one of those lanterns that immediately stands out. A hand-crafted architectural pendant from the 1910-20, with a presence you rarely encounter today. The hexagonal shape, the softly textured cathedral glass, and the simple iron bars in front of the panels give it a quiet, almost medieval character, reminiscent of early church or manor house lighting.
What we particularly like about this piece is the balance between strength and refinement. The roof is beautifully shaped and finished with small finials, while the hinged glass bottom panel is both practical and well designed, clear evidence of the care that went into making it. These are the kinds of details that are hard to replicate and even harder to find in original condition.
The lantern is entirely original and has aged gracefully. The patina is warm and honest, and there is one glass panel with an old, stable crack (photo 7), which in our view only adds to its authenticity and does not detract from its overall appearance.
Hand-made lanterns of this quality and period are increasingly rare. This piece has the look and feel of something that once hung in the porch or entrance of a substantial house, and it would be just as impressive in a contemporary interior today.
