About the Item
This exceptional Art Deco enameled railway lantern, known as the “Lampe Paradou,” was produced by Usines Foal, located at 48 quai de Mariemont, Brussels, Belgium, circa 1918–1920. Originally designed for railway use, this rare industrial object can be beautifully diverted from its original function to become a striking decorative table lamp or ambient lantern, perfectly suited for contemporary interiors.
What makes this piece particularly remarkable is its outstanding manufacturing quality and refined aesthetics. The lantern features superbly enameled reflectors with rich depth and character, showcasing the high level of craftsmanship typical of early 20th-century Belgian industrial design. It retains its four original concentric optical glass lenses, an extraordinary detail that gives the lamp a powerful sculptural presence and a highly graphic, architectural look.
Today, this former railway lantern functions as a highly original design object, blending Art Deco elegance, industrial heritage, and decorative versatility. Whether placed on a console, side table, desk, or used as a statement ambient light, it adds a strong visual identity to any interior—modern, eclectic, or classic.
This is a rare and authentic Art Deco lighting piece, prized both for its historical significance and its ability to serve as a functional work of decorative art.
