About the Item
A rare and atmospheric pendant from the Victorian period (late 19th century), this hanging lantern showcases exquisite craftsmanship and timeless charm. The hand-blown glass shade is decorated with a continuous 360° pastoral lake house scene, delicately hand-painted in reverse with snowy rooftops, flowering trees, tranquil water, and rolling hills, a romantic landscape that softly glows when illuminated.
The lantern is suspended from an ornate cast brass ceiling rose with original antique brass chains. It was originally designed for candlelight, and the inner brass candleholder is still intact. When lit, either by candle or optional electric conversion, the lantern radiates a warm, nostalgic ambiance that brings the painted countryside to life.
The top of the glass shade features frosted bands with hand-painted green enamel stripes and gilded accents, adding to the refined aesthetic. The base and crown are crafted from detailed brass with a naturalistic leaf motif, typical of the Victorian design sensibility.
This piece remains in very good antique condition with minor wear and light paint loss consistent with age. It can be professionally electrified on request, making it suitable for modern interior use as a pendant light, decorative fixture, or ambient mood lighting.
