About the Item
These original 1950s industrial grey enamel pendant lights were salvaged from an electrical substation in the Northwest of England and manufactured by Benjamin, one of Britain’s most respected lighting producers of the mid-20th century. Designed for use across factories, substations and engineering facilities, Benjamin’s enamel pendants were celebrated for their exceptional build quality, reliability and optical performance.
Each fixture features a classic parabolic steel shade, finished in Benjamin’s signature grey vitreous enamel with a clean white interior for optimal light reflection. The surfaces retain an authentic, gently worn patina—evidence of their industrial history and decades of service. At the top sits the original pressed brass gallery collar, embossed with the Benjamin mark, offering a subtle decorative contrast to the cool grey enamel.
For contemporary installation, the shades are now mounted on a new powder-coated steel rod which can be customised for fixing to either wall or ceiling, giving them a refined architectural presence and making them ideal for fixed focal points—such as illuminating artwork, shelving, kitchen counters or workstations where a precise light drop is required.
Fully restored and rewired, these pendants combine mid-century British industrial heritage with a clean, modern presentation, making them suitable for both residential and commercial interiors.
