About the Item
This stunning 1960s German wall light or sconce by Egon Hillebrand features a striking triple-cube design made from thick, hand-crafted Murano glass blocks mounted on a polished chrome support. When illuminated, the textured glass with a diamond design on the underside refracts the light in a wonderfully atmospheric way, creating soft halos and rippling reflections across the wall. The quality and design are typical of Hillebrand’s high-end architectural lighting from the mid-century era, originally created for elegant and prestigious interiors.
Egon Hillebrand was one of Germany’s most respected lighting manufacturers of the 20th century, known for combining technical precision with refined modern design. Founded in Neheim-Hüsten, a historic centre of German lighting production, the company became especially renowned in the 1950s and 1960s for producing sophisticated fixtures for public buildings, hotels, casinos, and private interiors. Hillebrand lamps are prized for their exceptional build quality, innovative use of materials, and timeless aesthetic.
The Murano glass elements in this sconce are entirely handmade and remain in excellent, undamaged condition, with impressive clarity and depth. The rectangular chrome backplate has been freshly polished and provides a clean, reflective contrast to the sculptural glass, giving the lamp a refined and elegant presence that works equally well in vintage and contemporary interiors.
The wall light requires 3 x Edison E14 lightbulbs. I would recommend LED dimmable silver capped golf bulbs which reflect the light back through the glass creating the wonderful reflections on the wall where it's placed.
A switch is fitted to the bottom just in case you wish to turn it off and on at the wall. Rewired and in full working order.
Perfect above a mirror or as a feature sconce on a wall. It can be fitted vertically or horizontally whichever is your preference.
