A sculptural wall sconce by Albano Poli for Poliarte, Italy, 1960s — a striking example of mid-century Italian lighting where art meets architecture. The design centers around a brushed aluminum backplate adorned with thick Murano glass cubes in vivid amethyst purple, arranged in perfect symmetry. At the core, a cross of textured frosted glass surrounds a mirrored chrome sphere that captures and distorts its environment, creating a dynamic interplay of light and reflection.
When lit, the sconce emits a soft amber glow that radiates through the frosted center and gently highlights the deep violet tones of the surrounding glass. It transforms from a static object into an atmospheric presence, making it both functional and sculptural.
Poli’s work for Poliarte stands at the intersection of Brutalism and Venetian glass tradition—bold, tactile, and unmistakably Italian. This piece works beautifully on its own or as part of a modular arrangement, offering rhythm and depth to any wall it graces.
