While studying at the École des Beaux-Arts in Toulouse, he worked in his father's workshop. After graduating, he became the artistic director of the family business. In 1925, he began exhibiting his designs in numerous salons and galleries, including the Salon des Artistes Décorateurs, the Exposition des Arts Décoratifs, and the Galerie l'Époque in Paris, establishing himself as an innovative designer. In 1932, André Arbus moved to Paris, where he championed a return to French tradition and quality. Inspired by French classicism, his refined pieces often combined economy of line with luxurious materials such as varnish, parchment, vellum, and fine plywood. He opened his own gallery in Paris in 1935. In 1939, he exhibited his work at the New York World's Fair (designing the French sections of the Expo in New York and San Francisco) and was commissioned to design the interior of the French Ministry of Agriculture. From 1964 onwards, he exhibited extensively and worked on numerous interior design projects and objects, including a series of glass chandeliers, various collaborations with the Parisian company Veronese, several transatlantic liner interiors, and a commission to decorate the French Embassy in Washington, D.C. (1955). During the 1950s, André Arbus turned to sculpture and began creating unique sculptural furniture. His first bronze pieces appeared in 1952, and sculpture remained his primary activity until his death in 1969.
