About the Item
Scandinavian mid-century wall fixture, model 8601, produced by the Swedish manufacturer Arvid Böhlmarks Lampfabrik in the 1940s. The fixture features an etched glass shade with subtle vertical striations that gently diffuse the light, creating a warm and atmospheric glow. The shade is secured to a solid brass wall mount, elegantly accented with a distinctive wave-shaped decorative element—an unmistakable design hallmark of the period. Both materials and proportions reflect the high level of craftsmanship and understated elegance characteristic of Swedish lighting design from the mid-20th century, making this piece a refined and timeless addition to both modern and classic interiors.
The lighting manufacturer Arvid Böhlmarks Lampfabrik was founded in 1872 in the Swedish capital, Stockholm. Originally an importer of paraffin lamps, the company soon began producing kerosene heaters. By the late 1880s, Böhlmarks had become the first Swedish manufacturer of paraffin lamps. In 1894, the company acquired the Pukeberg glassworks, which produced both lampshades and household glassware. In 1904, Böhlmarks began manufacturing electric lighting fixtures—a product line that soon replaced traditional oil and paraffin lamps. Over the years, many prominent designers worked with the company, including Gunnar Asplund, Harald Notini, and Sigurd Lewerentz. The company was dissolved in 1977.
