About the Item

A sculptural play of glass and light, this set of three LP 256 wall or ceiling lights was designed by Carlo Nason for Mazzega in the 1970s. Their geometric composition and refined materiality echo the designer’s signature approach to lighting: architectural, poetic, and unmistakably Italian. Design Executed in cast Murano glass, each unit features a rhythmic structure of frosted and clear crystal blocks arranged around a polished chrome mount. The glass has been cast with subtle irregularities, resulting in a textured surface that disperses light in soft, angular rays. The front and side planes alternate between translucent opaline and crystal-clear elements, lending a subtle depth when lit. Designed to function either horizontally or vertically, these fixtures work equally well as a wall-mounted sculptural feature or as a ceiling light, offering versatility in placement and configuration. When illuminated, the glass refracts a golden, layered glow reminiscent of icy stalactites under sunlight. The modular arrangement enhances the visual impact, especially when grouped together as seen here in this triptych composition. Carlo Nason, born into a Murano glassmaking family, brought a modernist sensibility to the traditional Venetian craft. Working with Mazzega, he pushed the boundaries of form, often experimenting with casting techniques and the play of translucency. The LP 256 model is a fine example of his exploration into modular lighting structures that elevate architectural interiors. Condition In good original condition. Minor signs of wear on the chrome backplates, consistent with age. The glass elements are free from chips or cracks.
