About the Item

Pair of French Art Deco Wall Sconces by DEGUE (Compiègne), France, 1920s Elegant pair of French Art Deco wall sconces by DEGUE, produced in Compiègne in the late 1920s — a refined example of authentic Art Deco lighting. Each sconce features a beautifully molded white frosted glass shade, signed “Degué” in relief, suspended from its original silver-plated solid bronze fixture. This combination of sculptural glass and high-quality metalwork exemplifies the luxurious craftsmanship found in the finest French Art Deco wall lights of the interwar period. These 1920s sconces provide a soft, atmospheric glow and work beautifully in hallways, living rooms, bedrooms, or sophisticated commercial interiors. An excellent choice for collectors of Art Deco design, French Art Deco lighting, and decorative arts from the era. Dimensions — each • Height: 11.6 in. (29.5 cm) • Width: 4.7 in. (12 cm) • Depth: 11.4 in. (29 cm) Each shade bears the molded “Degué” mark (see photo). Delivered professionally rewired for your country (US, UK, EU, China, etc.) with B22 sockets. LED bulbs may be used. About David Guéron (DEGUE) David Guéron (1892–1950), founder of the Cristallerie de Compiègne, was one of the key innovators of French Art Deco glass and lighting design. Born in Turkey and later established in France, Guéron developed a distinctive style characterized by geometric forms, frosted molded glass, and elegant bronze or metal-mounted fixtures. His prolific workshop produced some of the most recognizable pieces of Art Deco lighting of the 1920s and 1930s. Beyond residential and architectural commissions, DEGUÉ was selected to supply glasswork for major French transatlantic ocean liners, contributing to the luxurious interiors of these floating symbols of national prestige — including the legendary SS Normandie, an icon of Art Deco design and one of the most celebrated liners ever built. His involvement in these grand maritime projects further elevated his reputation and placed his creations among the finest examples of Art Deco craftsmanship. Today, Guéron’s lighting — from Degué sconces to chandeliers and table lamps — is highly sought after by Art Deco collectors, interior designers, and lovers of 1920s–1930s French design, prized for its sculptural beauty, quality of materials, and historical importance.
