About the Item

The simple geometry found in Mario Botta’s buildings is also reflected in this lamp — Fidia, designed by Botta for Artemide in 1986 as a wall lamp features a clear, reduced geometric assemblage of perforated metal plates showing beautiful light and shadow effects once lit. This example seems to be an early edition compared to the sizes of later production examples and is marked Artemide embossed on the mounting hardware The lamp was originally designed to be mounted vertically but also it gives a very nice effect when mounted horizontally (please see the video) This lamp is out of production Mario Botta is a Swiss architect born in Mendrisio, Ticino on 1 April 1943. At age fifteen, Botta dropped out of secondary school and apprenticed with the architectural firm of Carloni and Camenisch in Lugano. After three years, he went to the Art College in Milan for his baccalaureate, and then to University Iuav di Venezia for his professional degree in 1969. During his time in Venice, Botta got to meet and work with the architects: Carlo Scarpa, Louis Kahn and Le Corbusier, these mentors significantly influenced Botta’s career and aesthetic approach. Mario Botta started his own architectural practice in Lugano in 1970. Mario Botta’s most important public buildings are the Cathedral at Evry, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and the Tinguely Museum in Basel.
