Incredible 1970s explosion proof mining lamp from Germany. To meet the criteria for the explosion proof rating, an enclosure must be able to contain any explosion originating within its housing and prevent sparks from within its housing from igniting vapors, gases, dust, or fibers in the air surrounding it. This is why these lights were designed and why they were and still are essential in jobs like mining, chemical container ships or any job where you are dealing with hazardous or flammable gasses in the air.
