About the Item

Greta Von Nessen pair of model NS945 swing arm wall lamps designed in 1949 for Von Nessen Studio. The lamps have their original off-white (now light crème from UV exposure) baked enamel metal shade mounted by a swivel to an L-shaped satin chrome tube attached to a cherrywood support that is a wall mount. Both lamps have adjustable chrome locking collars that allow them to swing 180 degrees with a 23" reach to both sides and a vertical adjustment of 24". The enameled shades pivot up to bounce indirect light off the ceiling or down as traditional reading lamps. Great versatility. Greta Von Nessen was a very talented designer and administrator. She headed Nessen Studio after her husband, Walter passed away in Wiscasset, Maine in 1943 and oversaw its tremendous growth and transition to Nessen Lighting in 1951. Selected for the first Museum of Modern Art Good Design Exhibition in November 1950, this was the first of her lamp designs to be chosen for a Good Design Exhibit by MOMA. Alexander Girard joined Edgar Kaufman, Jr on the board of selection and Ray and Charles created the installation for the presentation which took place at the Merchandise Mart of Chicago. Available as a pair. Both lamps have been rewired and are in good condition.

6 Pair of Georg W. Hansen Brass 1706 Double Swing Arm Wall Lamps
By George W. Hansen, Metalarte Spain
Located in Hanover, MA
At present we have SIX (6) pair of these original solid brass model 1706 swing arm wall lamps. These are the real deal, old school, with the extinct (not exaggerating) brass square tube cord covers, MetalArt marked backplates which go over the separate wall mounting plates, original solid brass finials and original lampshades (several different styles). Can be hard wired or plug-in. Works with three-way lightbulb. Designed by Georg W. Hansen in 1947 while improvising a reading lamp for his bunk during World War 2, we present this vintage pair of polished brass double swing arm sconces with original harps and solid brass finials as well as solid brass column cord covers. Signed Hansen original cast brass rectangular backplates (3 1/2" wide x 4 1/2" tall x 1/2" deep), allowing the option of hard wiring or simply wall mounting and plugging into an outlet. Three way switch. Each lamp takes a single standard Edison screw bulb up to 150 watts. This is the original swing arm lamp favored by designers for nearly 75 years. Each hinge can be tightened to lock in position. Manufactured by Metalarte, Barcelona, Spain for Hansen New York. Hansen Lamps was acquired by Hinson Lighting...
