About the Item
A sculptural wall sconce in wrought iron, inspired by the legendary Roman Bocca della Verità (“Mouth of Truth”). Handcrafted in Italy during the 20th century, the piece presents a dramatic mask-like visage mounted on an iron backplate, crowned by an ornamental scroll and shell motif. The expressive face, with its hollowed eyes and open mouth, is designed to diffuse light in a theatrical manner, combining function with an almost ritualistic presence.
Both sculptural and architectural in character, the sconce exemplifies the bold artistry and craftsmanship of Italian ironwork, where utility and symbolism converge. Its aged patina adds depth and authenticity, enhancing its sense of history and mystery.
