About the Item
This impressive vintage Italian wall lamp, designed by Sergio Terzani in the 1980s, embodies the organic modern style with brutalist influences. Featuring a large hand-crafted terracotta shell base adorned with 5 uniquely shaped glass shades. The sconces's sculptural form combines a naturalistic beige and brown terracotta shell with industrial black tubular iron arms, creating a striking balance between organic shapes and raw materials, this remarkable piece showcases Terzani's unique vision and masterful craftsmanship. The lamp beautifully combines natural forms with industrial elements to create a unique and eye-catching piece blending functional lighting with artistic sculpture.
Design and Composition:
The lamp's focal point is a large terracotta shell, meticulously crafted to mimic the natural coloration and texture of seashells. The shell features subtle gradations of beige and brown tones, faithfully replicating the organic patterns and encrustations found in nature.
Emerging from this sculptural centerpiece shell are five glass lampshades. Each shade is individually crafted to mimic organic forms and textures, reminiscent of natural encrustations found on seashells. This attention to detail in the glasswork demonstrates the skilled artisanship characteristic of Italian design from this period.
The lamp is supported by two arched arms made of black tubular iron. These elements introduce an industrial aesthetic that complements the organic forms, creating a harmonious balance between nature-inspired design and man-made materials.
The design reflects the growing interest in organic modern aesthetics during the 1970s and 1980s, while also incorporating elements that resonate with the raw, textural approach of brutalism.
The raw, unrefined quality of the terracotta shell and the bold use of black metal create a striking contrast that adds depth and character to the piece.
This vintage Italian design piece is a creation combining traditional craftsmanship with innovative concepts.
Perfect for collectors of mid-century Italian design, this lamp would make a striking addition to interiors ranging from eclectic modern to contemporary spaces inspired by organic forms. Its blend of artisanal craftsmanship with avant-garde design sensibilities makes it a valuable and visually captivating piece for any discerning collector or design enthusiast.

Pair of Italian Baroque Hand-Carved Giltwood Sconces with Gilt Bronze Arm
Located in Firenze, IT
A very beautiful pair of antique 17th century baroque period hand-carved giltwood Italian sconces made with gold leaves technique. The corner base is finely carved as acanthus leaves with a pine as final up and down. In the middle of each sconce there is a plain gilt wood band that covers a metal band with holes in which one can put the sconce’s arm. We have just one antique and original arm per sconce but on request we can realize more arms to put on. Each ormolu socket has a very sinuous and curvy shape emphasized by a curl on both sides and embellished by a richly stylized gilt wood leaf pattern. A fully decorative scrolled floral work gilt wood bobeches. Newly wired.
