French Art Deco Wall Sconces by Jean Gauthier, Paris, 1920s – Pair.
Exceptional and rare pair of French Art Deco wall sconces designed by Jean Gauthier (Paris) and dating from the 1920s. This elegant pair features two thick enameled molded glass shades, showcasing the refined geometry and craftsmanship characteristic of high-quality French Art Deco lighting. The shades are mounted on original brass fixtures, offering a warm contrast between metal and glass.
Each sconce bears the molded signature “J. Robert” (see photo), a known pseudonym used by Jean Gauthier, making this pair particularly desirable for collectors of signed Art Deco lighting.

About Jean Gauthier
Jean Gauthier began his career with his first workshop located at 12–14 rue Jean Robert in Paris, later expanding production with factories in Ezanville, north of Paris. In the years immediately following World War I, Gauthier produced cameo glass shades, some signed “Gauthier.”
The Ezanville factories became known for producing Art Deco molded-pressed glass lighting, much of which was unsigned. Certain models bear the mark “EJG” (Établissements Jean Gauthier), while others are signed “J. Robert”, referencing the street name of his original Paris workshop.
In the 1930s, Gauthier introduced a line of opalescent semi-crystal glass shades, primarily cups, and also produced semi-crystal shades for renowned designer Jean-Boris Lacroix.
These wall sconces are a fine example of authentic French Art Deco lighting from the 1920s, ideal for collectors, interior designers, or anyone seeking a statement pair of period Parisian sconces with documented provenance and timeless elegance.
