About the Item
Pair of "Lantern" wall sconces in rattan and bamboo, attributed to Louis Sognot.
Made in France in the 1960s.
A wonderful example of mid-century craftsmanship, where bamboo and rattan blend perfectly.
Louis Sognot was a French designer best known for his elegant furniture made from a combination of rattan and wood. Sognot was influenced by the aesthetics of Art Deco and Cubism, giving his work a unique stylistic touch while remaining usable. Born on May 25, 1892 in Paris, France, Sognot studied at École Bernard-Pablissy before working as a designer at the Au Printemps department store in Paris in 1919. The designer became a founding member of the Union des Artistes Decoroteurs. He died in 1970 in Paris, France
