About the Item
Iconic LP 12 A wall lamps designed by Ignazio Gardella for Azucena in 1960.
Brass frame, white opaline glass, excellent condition, maker's mark, first production.
Ignazio Gardella was one of the greatest Italian designers of the 20th century. Born in Milan in 1905, Gardella studied architecture at the Milan Polytechnic, where he developed his passion for modern design.
In the 1930s, Gardella began working as an architect and designer, creating a series of innovative projects that redefined the concept of Italian design. Among his most famous works are the Villa Borletti in Milan, the Harlequin Theater in Milan, and the Italian Pavilion at the 1958 Brussels Fair.
Gardella also worked as an interior designer, creating furniture and art objects for important clients such as the Agnelli family and the Pirelli family. His minimalist and modern style has influenced many subsequent Italian designers.
Gardella was also a design teacher at the Milan Polytechnic and has written numerous books on the subject. In 1956, he founded the design magazine "Domus," which has become one of the most important design publications in the world.
His career has been honored with numerous awards, including the Compasso d'Oro Award in 1955 and the International Architecture Prize in 1960. Gardella died in 1999, but his work continues to be a source of inspiration for designers around the world.
