About the Item

An extraordinarily rare pair of large cone-shaped wall lights, designed by Max Ingrand and produced by Fontana Arte in Italy in 1955. These lamps feature sizable conical satin glass shades with finely beveled edges, mounted on graceful trident-style supports with three rounded prongs in patinated brass. The mounts culminate in a striking, rounded, elongated finial, masterfully crafted from thick crystal with deep beveling on the front—an exceptional and distinctive detail that adds to the design’s uniqueness. A prime example of impeccable craftsmanship and poised elegance, these sconces stand as some of Ingrand’s finest works, showcasing the best of his artistic legacy. When illuminated, they provide a beautiful, atmospheric light. The brass retains its original, charming patina, enhancing the lamps’ authenticity and giving them a one-of-a-kind character. However, if preferred, the brass can be polished to a bright finish upon request. Literature; Max Ingrand du verre a la Lumiere, Pierre-Emmanuel Martin-Vivier, Norma Editions 2009. Page 253. Max Ingrand, a distinguished French-Italian designer and architect, is renowned for his extraordinary contributions to decorative arts and lighting design. Born on November 20, 1908, in Bressuire, France, Ingrand’s artistic journey began early, leading him to study at the Ecole Nationale des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. His time there nurtured his refined sense of aesthetics and craftsmanship. In 1929, he moved to Italy and became a naturalized Italian citizen. Throughout his illustrious career, Ingrand collaborated with prominent design houses, including Fontana Arte (where he served as artistic director) and Arteluce, leaving a lasting impact on the lighting design world. His ability to blend diverse materials—glass, metal, and wood—allowed him to create iconic and breathtaking lighting pieces. Ingrand’s designs were known for their elegance, simplicity, and perfectly balanced proportions. He was deeply interested in experimenting with different shapes and forms, merging traditional craftsmanship with modern techniques. His lighting designs often featured refined glass elements, intricate patterns, and an elegant interplay of functionality and artistic expression. Though primarily recognized for his lighting designs, Ingrand also worked on architectural projects, redesigning interiors for luxury hotels, public spaces, and private residences. His architectural work was distinguished by his vision for creating harmonious environments that seamlessly integrated with their surroundings. Max Ingrand’s lasting legacy in design continues to inspire contemporary creators. His innovative use of materials, exceptional attention to detail, and timeless aesthetic appeal still captivate design lovers around the world. His contributions to the design world remain a testament to his talent, vision, and commitment to creating enduring works of art. These lamps are checked in our own atelier, cleaned and is also suitable for use in the USA. Please note that the lamps are priced and sold as a pair.
