About the Item
Elegant pair of large gilt bronze wall sconces, late Napoleon III period. Late 19th-early 20th century.
The central front is ornamented with a large bow with cascading ends and divided into two arms, each with two lights.
In the French Louis XVI style, with a Neoclassical aesthetic incorporating motifs such as acanthus leaves, scalloped bows, garlands, and tassels—a repertoire of decorative elements characteristic of this style.
A large, scalloped bow at the top, crafted from finely chased gilt bronze or ormolu, immediately captures our attention. From this bow descend garlands of vine leaves that run along the central stem, culminating in an inverted pineapple finial with a suspended tassel.
Similar designs were produced by the renowned American firm Edward F. Caldwell
Co., specializing in luxury electric lighting during the 19th and 20th centuries.
This highly refined pair of wall sconces adds a touch of sophisticated elegance and distinction to any space.
