About the Item

Exquisite Outdoor Copper Wall Lamp designed by Hans Bergström for Ateljé Lyktan in 1940/50s Sweden. This exceptionally rare copper lamp, created by the renowned Swedish architect and designer Hans Bergström, boasts a versatile design. Originally intended for outdoor use and having served faithfully for over 60 years. The lamp's elegant perforations cast a gentle and inviting warm glow." Swedish architect and designer Hans Bergström, born in Karlshamn in 1910, embarked on his creative journey in the world of design. Following his secondary school education in 1927, he immersed himself in the craft at Ystad-Metall, a metal manufactory in Ystad. Founding his own lighting company 1934, Ateljé Lyktan, in Helsingborg. In 1935, he and his wife Vera moved the atelier to Åhus, a picturesque location on Sweden's southeast coast. Shortly thereafter, Bergström expanded his creative footprint by establishing a showroom in the neighboring city of Kristianstad. Guided by the ethos that "Light must be white and shine freely," Bergström dedicated himself to designing and crafting functional yet modern lighting fixtures intended to illuminate entire spaces. As Ateljé Lyktan's creative director for three decades, he served as the company's sole designer until the early 1960s. Many of his designs were unique, each numbered but nameless, adding to the allure of his remarkable legacy.
