Pair of Italian Neoclassical Wrought Iron and Gilt Urn Wall Sconces Italy, 21st century Dimensions: 20" H x 14" W x 6" D Pair of Italian Neoclassical Wrought Iron Gilt Urn Candle Sconces A decorative and finely hand-wrought pair of Italian wall sconces, blending Neoclassical form with the rustic charm of traditional Italian metalwork. Each sconce features a central two-handled urn, richly finished in gold leaf, from which two scrolling candle arms extend. Above the urn rises an elaborate branching stem with symmetrically arranged leaves, hand-painted in deep green with subtle shading, evoking the laurel motif so central to classical decoration. The design references ancient Greco-Roman victory urns and the laurel wreath as symbols of honor, achievement, and eternal life. The hand-hammered iron elements are enhanced with a time-softened patina, creating a warm contrast between the verdigris-toned foliage and the lustrous gilt urns. These sconces may be used with taper candles to create a dramatic, ambient glow, or adapted for electrification if desired. Their sculptural presence and vertical composition make them ideal for flanking a mirror, doorway, or fireplace, lending an air of classical refinement to interiors ranging from traditional to eclectic.
