About the Item
A sculptural and distinctly modern pair of Italian wall sconces from the 1950s, characterized by a graphic, architectural composition. Each sconce is built around a slender, angled vertical arm in black-lacquered brass, anchored to a circular brass wall plate with a warm bronze patina, measuring 12 cm in diameter (approximately 4.72 inches). A secondary short horizontal element introduces a subtle sense of movement and balance to the overall design.
The light source is defined by a spherical opaline glass shade, positioned slightly forward from the structure, creating a refined contrast between the linear metal elements and the pure geometry of the globe. The shades are slightly orientable, allowing for minor adjustment of the light direction.
The metal surfaces show an authentic and attractive patina consistent with age and use. The brass and bronze elements display gentle oxidation and tonal variations, while the black-lacquered areas present small losses and wear in places, visible on close inspection. These signs of age are purely aesthetic and do not affect the integrity or functionality of the sconces. The opaline glass shades are in good vintage condition, free from cracks or chips.
