These early 20th-century Empire-style gilt bronze and crystal sconces are a testament to elegance and sophistication. Originating in France, the Empire style drew inspiration from Ancient Rome, often featuring ormolu mounts with Roman motifs. Each sconce has two outstretched arms with bobeches made from acanthus leaves, symbolizing immortality. Exquisitely cut pendalogues dangle from the bobeches, mirroring the crystal body. The arms are attached to a gilt bronze band with leaves and floral decals, while strands of octagonal crystals cascade from the band to the crown, creating a stunning silhouette. Condition:
Repaired: The left arm on one of the sconces has been professionally repaired (see image). Rewired: Rewired to US electrical standards, each sconce takes three candelabra-base lights, incandescent or LED. Wear consistent with age and use. Hand-cast makes them similar but not identical. All crystals are complete and in good condition. Slight scratches on the metal commensurate with age. They have back piercings on the top and bottom to screw onto the wall.
