About the Item

A Monumental Pair of Gilt Bronze Ormolu Six Light Wall Lights in the Manner of Francesco Ladatte An exceptional and imposing pair of eighteenth century inspired gilt bronze ormolu wall lights, each modeled with a richly pierced rocaille backplate centered by either a triton or a mermaid. From these sculptural figures emerge six foliate cast branches that sweep outward with dramatic movement and superb detail. The quality is extremely fine throughout with deep chasing, crisp modeling, and a brilliant gilded surface. Both sconces are drilled for electricity and each bears an etched monogram insignia below a coronet, indicating an aristocratic commission or noble provenance. About Francesco Ladatte Francesco Ladatte (1706 to 1787) was an Italian sculptor, medallist, and master bronzier who worked extensively for the Royal House of Savoy. Known for his technical brilliance, fluid modeling, and richly detailed castings, Ladatte elevated court bronzework in Piedmont to a level rivaling contemporary French ateliers. His works include portrait medallions, sculptural groups, and elaborate gilt bronze furnishings created for royal palaces and aristocratic patrons. Today he is regarded as one of the finest Piedmontese sculptors of his century, admired for his precision, elegance, and unmistakable artistic identity. height 27 1/4 in.; width 26 1/2 in.; depth 10 1/2 in. 69.2 cm; 66.7 cm; 26.7 cm
