About the Item
These exceptional wall sconces reflect the celebrated Florentine tradition of carved and polychromed wood decor. The richly modeled fruit baskets were created around 1880–1900, featuring grapes, pomegranates, pears and foliage arranged in joyful Baroque style. The warm craquelure and softened colors offer the authentic charm only time can create.
The fruit basket represents abundance and hospitality, a beloved theme in Italian palazzi since the Renaissance. In the early 20th century, the pieces were sensitively converted into electric sconces with metal candle arms and faux-wax sleeves, maintaining the appearance of candlelight.
Stylistically aligned with the Baroque Revival decoration that flourished in late-19th century Italy, these sconces bring the warm atmosphere and artistic elegance of Florentine villa interiors into contemporary luxury settings.
A rare matched pair of generous proportions. Perfect for Mediterranean-inspired interiors, French Country dining rooms or Palm Beach villas. They provide striking decoration even when unlit.
