About the Item

Exquisite pair of Model 2024 wall sconces designed by Max Ingrand for Fontana Arte in the 1950s. These elegant fixtures feature Ingrand’s signature sculptural glasswork—an elongated, almond-shaped satin-frosted diffuser that emits a warm, velvety glow when illuminated. The glass shade is secured by two refined brass brackets, creating a delicate contrast against the ethereal matte surface. A masterclass in mid-century Italian lighting, the 2024 model exemplifies Ingrand’s poetic handling of light and material. Their organic form and soft luminosity make them ideal for refined interiors, adding atmosphere without visual weight. Max Ingrand (1908–1969) was a celebrated French designer and master glass artist known for his innovative work in decorative lighting and stained glass. After training at the École des Arts Décoratifs, he became Artistic Director of Fontana Arte in 1954, where he redefined modern lighting through sculptural forms, refined materials, and atmospheric illumination. Ingrand’s designs renowned for their poetic balance of glass and light remain icons of mid-century Italian design and continue to influence contemporary lighting today. Fontana Arte, founded in Milan in 1932 by Gio Ponti and Luigi Fontana, is one of Italy’s most influential lighting and glass design companies. Rooted in architectural modernism, the firm became renowned for its mastery of glass, producing luminous objects that fused art, craftsmanship, and industrial innovation. Under the artistic direction of designers like Pietro Chiesa and Max Ingrand, Fontana Arte created many of the 20th century’s most iconic lighting pieces, establishing a legacy synonymous with elegance, clarity, and timeless Italian design.
