About the Item

STILNOVO (publisher) Italy With their hourglass shapes, evocative of Christian Dior's “New Look” dresses, and their spherical details, the pieces produced by the Stilnovo publisher are representative of Italian lighting fixtures of the 1950s. Stilnovo comes at a time when the idea of function is combined with the appearance of new materials to produce sober and innovative forms. The use of brass and copper is the company's signature. Often compared to Arteluce, which, under the direction of Gino Sarfatti, explored abstraction, Stilnovo is known for its organic lines. At the origin of increasingly experimental lighting fixtures, designed among others by Joe Colombo and Ettore Sottsass, the Stilnovo publishing house is today considered one of the references in historical design
