About the Item

A superb pair of original Model 2093 wall lights designed by Max Ingrand for Fontana Arte in the 1960s — with two identical sets currently available. These are among the most iconic creations of Ingrand, showcasing all the hallmarks that make Fontana Arte lighting instantly recognisable: the poetic geometry, the masterful craftsmanship, and above all the unmistakable Nile-green hue of the thick glass. Each sconce features a ground oval centre pane, softly frosted to diffuse the light, framed by two thick, bevelled glass blades with beautifully rounded edges. The glass elements are held on elegant patinated brass mounts, whose warm, aged tone complements the cool clarity of the glass. The patina is entirely original, untouched, and adds a spectacular character that only time can create. A rare detail: While this model was typically produced with nickel-plated brass, this particular version in solid brass was custom-commissioned in the 1960s for a luxury hotel in Abano Terme (Padova), from which both sets were sourced. This bespoke execution makes them exceptionally collectible. When lit, the sconces transform completely: The bevelled edges refract and stretch the light into floating halos on the wall, creating a mesmerising optical aura — exactly the atmospheric effect for which Fontana Arte is celebrated. The photos capture this beautifully: shifting rings of light that make the sconces appear almost weightless. All glass pieces are in perfect vintage condition, with no chips, cracks, or restorations — remarkably rare for this model. • Original wiring is preserved; rewiring is recommended and available upon request. • Brass hardware shows a rich, authentic patina consistent with age. • Two identical pairs available — ideal for larger projects or symmetrical installations. A timeless Fontana Arte masterpiece and a quintessential example of Max Ingrand’s poetic minimalism, where glass becomes architecture and light becomes sculpture.
